Description

This Marc Jacobs metallic dress is from a mainline collection circa 2000 - 2004. Most probably an early resort or pre-fall collection as we were unable to fine a runway match. Cut from contrasting panels of glistening silver lamé, it is tailored to a simple, sleeveless shift-style which balances the eye-catching fabric. Different grades of lame have been used with a finer, metallic thread providing a liquid looking smoothness and a heavier textured weave which almost emulates chain mail. The dress has a relaxed fit and a curved neckline that reveals the décolletage. It has a wide panel across the bottom that anchors the hem - a silhouette that is so of this era yet also recalls the flapper styles of the 1920s. This dress has no fastenings and pulls over the head. It is fully lined with black satin.

Marc Jacobs used lame fabrics extensively in his earlier collections and the pieces were some of the highest priced. The dress is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws; to note, the lame, with its high metal content, has darkened a tad and very evenly all over with time. The composition label reads 52% Metal, 48% Silk and Made in the USA; it’s labelled a US 6, UK 10. Please check our measurements below carefully as the fabric has no stretch.
