2016 Julien MacDonald White Cream Beaded Jumpsuit with Net Inserts

Julien Macdonald’s Spring 2016 collection was inspired by the black sand beaches and traditional textiles of Bali. Batik-inspired patterns were spangled with diamantes and appeared across beachy separates and show-stopping gowns. As Vogue wrote, “in the mind of this Welshman, it’s always going to be all about the rhinestones”.

Walking the runway as look 52/52, this jumpsuit was the glittering finale - a contemporary take on a classic bridal finale piece. Tailored from a fine mesh in a pale nude hue, it has a body-con silhouette. The entire piece is detailed with elaborate embroidery, tonal beads, pearls and iridescent sequins. The embellishment forms delicate geometric shapes, checkerboards, leaves, petals and vines up and down the body, appearing to adorn the skin itself. It has a low-cut front which is filled with a barely there, palest pink mesh. Petals of embroidered cloth trim the neckline. The jumpsuit zips up the centre back and is unlined. The ankles also have zip closures.

This piece is in very good archival vintage condition and is the actual show piece from the runway. Our couture trained seamstress has expertly restored this ensemble and she presents beautifully. There are no labels as this was the actual runway piece so please check the measurements below closely. A sample size so suitable for a UK 6 or US 0-2. We do not have the skirt which was attached separately.

Note on the designer: Julien Macdonald OBE rose to prominence in the late 1990s. After graduating from the Royal College of Art, he was hired by Karl Lagerfeld to work at Chanel, and was later appointed chief designer at Givenchy. In 1997, Macdonald launched his eponymous label and it was here that he cemented his reputation for high-octane, couture-level craftsmanship. He was named “British Fashion Designer of the Year” at the 2001 British Fashion Awards and, in 2006, he was awarded an OBE for services to fashion. Macdonald is known for his meticulous handwork, opulent fabrics, and body-sculpting silhouettes that marry traditional techniques with unabashed sensuality. His designs, often featuring intricate beading, feather work, and lacework, have made him a red carpet favorite and a key figure in modern fashion, celebrated for reviving the spectacle and decadence of haute couture in a contemporary context.
