2010 Comme des Garçons White Cotton Padded Top
Description
This avant-garde Comme des Garçons top was created as part of the Fall 2010 collection. Many of the runway looks featured unusual panelled construction which is a well-defined code of the brand founded by Rei Kawakubo. Vogue described these padded pieces as “resolute defiance of conventional notions of female body enhancement”. They are very reminiscent of the lumpy clothes of the brand’s infamous Spring 1997 collection titled "Body Meets Dress, Dress Meets Body" which is often referred to as the “lumps and bumps” show.
Crafted from white cotton and cut to a deceptively simple short-sleeve t-shirt silhouette, the front is detailed with four panels filled with padding. Each piece of padding can be removed via tonal hidden internal zips. This eccentric top fastens at the back of the neck with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye clasp, and under the left arm with a hidden zip. It is unlined.
A remarkable garment and in excellent archival condition with no issues. Made from 95% Cotton, 5% Polyester and the padding is 100% Polyester. Manufactured in Japan and labelled a size Medium, the fabric has a hint of stretch on the below measurements. We believe this would best fit sizes up to a UK 10 or US 6.
