Fall 1991 Chanel Runway Documented Pink Boucle Wool Jacket
Description
This vibrant pink jacket walked the runway as part of Chanel’s lauded Fall 1991 'Hip Hop' collection. This collection marked a turn in the aesthetic of the fashion label, as Karl Lagerfeld sought to establish the brand as a modern luxury house. Vogue wrote, “his genius was what would be called today the high-low mix”. For example, this bubble-gum pink jacket appeared on the runway layered over a fingerless bodysuit.
The jacket is tailored from the house’s signature bouclé wool, a luxurious, textured fabric which holds its shape very well. The collarless neck is elegant and the front fastens with seven high-octane logo buttons; textured gold-tone metal forms the brand’s double-C insignia and a surrounding circle, all encased by a circle of hot pink plastic. It has four patch pockets, each fastened with one of the logo buttons. The jacket is tailored to a highly flattering, elongated shape which follows the curves of the body. The cuffs have slits which are finished with three coordinating buttons. The jacket is fully lined in matching bubble-gum pink silk, woven with the brand’s logo.
This jacket is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. Other than the black on white Chanel Boutique label, it is unlabelled as it was common to remove the large linen size and composition label which was attached to earlier Chanel garments. Please check our below measurements as the fabric has no stretch. We estimate a good fit for sizes up to a UK 10-12 or US 6-8.
