Description

This rare Jean Paul Gaultier gown appeared on the Fall 2008 runway as part of a theatrical, multi-layered look typical of the maverick designer. Reminiscent of 1930s designs, the dress is topped with a layer of inky black lace; the peekaboo lining showcases the brand’s iconic tribal tattoo print - featuring Tibetan tigers and dragons surrounded by swirling plumes of smoke, this recognisable pattern was first introduced by the designer in 1996. Gaultier’s canny eye for detail is illustrated across the design. Beautifully stitched, stiff velvet grounds the piece, forming a wide belt and elegant collar with fabric hook-and-eye buttons. It fastens to the side with poppers.

The label reads “Jean Paul Gaultier Femme”. This collectable gown is in excellent archival vintage condition with no faults of any note. Probably worn once, this dress will also come with the original garment bag and was bought direct from Paris. We can't find a sizing label in the dress; the measurements suggest a best fit up to a UK size 10 or US 6. The polyamide lining is very stretchy, the lace less so but some give in the measurements below.
