1950s Frank Usher Black Panne Silk Velvet Dress

An original vintage 1950s evening dress from renowned British occasion wear designer Frank Usher. This dress dates from the early part of the decade and is made from a fabulous quality black inky silk velvet. The gown has an elasticated and gathered scoop neck with gentle pleating falling from the neckline to the empire line bust. The dress has structural boning on the side portions of the waistline and from the central darting of the skirt panel the dress flows from the Princess line seams towards the ankles. There is an additional horizontal panel towards the bottom hem that echoes the torso pleating of the dress. As well as the maker's label, the manufacturing labels are present in a side seam on the skirt and it is labelled a 36 which in modern sizing roughly equates to size UK 6 to 8 or US 2-4. It is in beautiful, gently worn vintage condition with no issues of any note.
