Description

This crisp cotton dress was designed by Horrockses in the 1950s. The candy pink, grey and white print is stunning; an assortment of leaves are scattered across the print, including several types of ivy. The silhouette is classic '50s with a nipped-in waist and flared skirt. It features a cross-over bodice with a wide curved collar. This dress fastens with hook-and-eyes on the waist and the full-skirt is secured at the front with snap closures. Elbow-length sleeves add an easy grace and make this an ideal wear for a daytime summer event.

This dress is in excellent vintage condition. Please note, there is a very faint line mark on the shoulders but it is only perceptible on very, very close inspection. Due to its age, there is no size or composition label, so please check the below measurements closely. We believe the best fit is for a UK size 6-8, US 2-4.

Horrockses was a premier 1950s British fashion brand and worn by HM Queen Elizabeth II. Examples of these dresses are held in museums worldwide. Horrockses was born in the mid 1940s and produced mostly cotton garments which were designed in London and made in cotton designed and produced by the Horrockses mill in Preston. They were famous throughout the UK and the US for their well made classic 1950s floral printed summer dresses with full skirts and were successful in improving the image of cotton across the upscale stores they were sold in. They continued to produce sought after dresses until the end of the 50s when their top designers left. The company was then sold on in 1964 and eventually discontinued in 1984.
