1950s Unlabelled Haute Couture Stiffened Tulle Chevron Pattern Dress
Description
This 1950s haute couture dress reminds me of Pierre Balmain designs from the early 1950s although it is unlabelled, the quality and construction is the very best. Beautifully crafted from black tulle and horizontal stripes of thick black velvet the length of the dress. In between the velvet, the sheer tulle has been embellished with rows of stiffened, ruffled tulle. Above the bust, the neckline and shoulder straps of the dress are trimmed with black velvet. It has a classic hourglass silhouette with a flared skirt that holds its shape due to the stiffened tulle. The hem has a pretty scallop finish. It probably had a black under-dress originally and looks very contemporary 'unlined' as such paired with a black or nude slip. Alternatively, wear it with nothing underneath for a sensuous, peekaboo effect. It fastens under the arm with a hidden tonal zip.
This piece is in truly excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. No labels remain in the dress and the fabric has no stretch. A best fit a petite UK size 6 or US 0-2.
