1960s Nat Kaplan Floral Green and Pink Striped Jacket and Trouser Set
Description
This playful and vibrant maxi dress and trousers ensemble was made by high-end American designer and manufacturer Nat Kaplan and retailed in San Francesco's premier department store I. Magnin & Co in the late 1960s to early 1970s.
The top is tailored to a classic empire silhouette that falls to the ankle. The fabric is stunning, a twill silk printed with horizontal stripes in fuchsia, apple-green, mustard and turquoise and dotted with flowers in the same hues. The top is sleeveless with a V-neckline outlined in fuchsia pink. It fastens at the back of the neck with a hidden zip and hook-and-eye clasp. At the waist, sits a fuchsia pink grosgrain belt, crowned at the front with a flat bow. The front of the dress has a high slit, revealing the trousers underneath. The coordinating white trousers are cut to a straight-leg silhouette and have a high-waistline. They are printed all over with the same flowers as the dress. They fasten at the back of the waist with two hidden hook-and-eye clasps and a hidden zip.
This ensemble is in truly excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. Retaining all of the labels, the ensemble also has the ILGWU union label for the period 1964 and 1973. We believe that this would best fit a UK size 6-8 or US 2-4.
