1960s Tan Floral Raffia Overcoat

This 1960s handcrafted mid-length coat was most likely made in Italy from stiff tan raffia woven with floral motifs; it forms a cocooning silhouette around the wearer. The slouchy drop-shoulders and a laid-back soft collar make it highly adaptable - the perfect throw-on piece over an elegant slip-dress or simple jeans and a t-shirt. Scalloped edges add pretty detail along all of the hems. Fastens to the front with three coordinating buttons. This beautiful overcoat will add texture to any outfit, elevating it above the everyday. It is fully lined in soft neutral, manmade fabric, making it an easy and comfortable wear.

Raffia garments from the 1950s and 1960s are rare to market and this one looks barely worn and in excellent vintage condition, particularly for a piece of over sixty years of age. There are no flaws of any note or tears to the raffia. Unlabelled but a very well made artisan weave. In order for the coat to hold its shape, the raffia is quite stiff and does not have any stretch to it. We estimate a good fit for all sizes up to a UK 8-10 or US 4-6. Our model is a UK 6, US 2 and this had a bit of room to spare.
