1970s Guy Laroche Couture Coral Red Feather Dress

This original 1970s red feather dress ensemble by Guy Laroche is a high-end boutique piece or demi couture order and the perfect statement piece for any event or party. The ensemble is actually made up of two completely separate dresses which could each be worn alone.  The inner dress is cut from a lightweight silk crepe in coral red which has a V-neck and gentle sloping cap sleeves. The front is pleated at the waistband and flows down beautifully into a long straight skirt with a front kick pleat.  It fastens down the back with the original concealed zipper and is lined in a high quality colour matching viscose. Although stunning when worn by itself, this piece really comes into its own with the addition of the outer dress, which is adorned with a fabulous coral red ostrich feather trim. This dress is made of a mesh like, semi transparent georgette fabric and cut in a trapeze style with kimono sleeves and great flow and movement. When paired together with some statement earrings and accessories, this piece conveys the glamour of the 70s in a truly unique way.  

We have attached an editorial shot of what we believe is an identical Guy Laroche dress in a green colourway, circa 1972 - 1974, where the underdress appears to have spaghetti straps.  We are also struck with how similar this design is to a Valentino mainline dress and have referenced this in our second editorial photo which is available for a whopping £9300!

Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition; the only thing we noted was a slight graze to the georgette fabric near the bottom hem which is lost in the folds.  We had to look very carefully to see this and it cannot be noticed when the dress is being worn.  The inner dress would best suit a 8-10 UK, or 4-6 US, though the outer is very generously sized due to its trapeze shape. Our model (5ft 11 in / 180 cm) is a UK 8-10, the inner dress fit her well and the outer was roomy.
