Description

British couture house Bellville Sassoon was founded in 1953 by Belinda Bellville and provided Parisian style fashion in the heart of London for aristocrats and debutantes. Designer David Sassoon joined the company in 1958 and in 1970 the company was renamed Bellville Sassoon. Lorcan Mullany joined in 1987 having worked for Bill Gibb and Hardy Amies as an occasion wear designer.

Made in England, this mid 1980s black evening dress is tailored from smooth black silk with a slight sheer finish. A party dress which sums of the era, it has frothy, voluminous puff-sleeves and a square-neckline. The body is layered with silk frills. It is boned all the way around which cinches the waist and gives way to the playful ra-ra skirt. The skirt is detailed with silk frills and two top frills crafted from a lighter sheer silk and trimmed with black grosgrain ribbon. The dress is fully lined with black satin.

In excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. It has no size or composition labels so please check our measurements below carefully. We estimate this would work on sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6 as the fabric has no stretch.
