2009 Romeo Pires Roy Lichtenstein Pop Art Mini-Skirt

This vivacious handkerchief hem skirt was designed by Romeo Pires for their Spring 2009 collection; the same fabric and print featured in the runway show. Romeo Pires is an Anglo-Brazilian design duo made up of Sergio Pires and Nicholas Humphrey.

The skirt is tailored from a lightweight chiffon patterned with a comic strip print of the famous artwork Vicki! I-I Thought I Heard Your Voice! by Roy Lichtenstein in 1964. It shows a woman’s face covered in red spots, a technique known as Ben-Day which was invented by the artist. The skirt is pleated and the pleats break up the image, showing flashes of white chiffon in between them. The hem of the chiffon is left raw and ruffled. There is a layer of lace under the chiffon that peeps out at the bottom hem and it is tie-dyed in colours that match the Pop Art print. The chiffon is woven with metallic threaded stripes. The waistband is elasticated and the skirt is lined with a white manmade stretch cloth. As the skirt is stretchy, it has no fastenings. It will fit a range of sizes as it will sit lower on smaller waists so suitable for up to a UK 10-12 or US 6-8. Excellent vintage condition with no issues.
